Israeli soldiers beat Palestinian man to death in 'cold-blooded execution'

Unless President Trump adopts a new approach-one that integrates the Arab states as active participants in support of a deal, not as bystanders to another round of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations-there is scant reason to believe the new US president will have any greater success in brokering a peace deal between these two Middle Eastern leaders than did the previous administration.

He said the peace conference should include the Israelis and Palestinians, the five permanent Security Council members and key regional and worldwide governments, noting that 74 countries attended a Mideast peace conference in Paris in January 2017. Other than the new Middle East regional environment, there is little to suggest that myriad obstacles that have prevented a bilateral peace agreement between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian President Abbas before can now be overcome, particularly pursued the same tried and tested way through direct bilateral negotiations.

Pledging she "will not shut up", United States ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said Tuesday at the UN Security Council that the Trump administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital "will not change", The Algemeiner reported. Israel captured the territory in the 1967 Middle East war.

According to Hamdan, these issues included Hamas-Fatah reconciliation; secret USA proposals for a final Israel-Palestine settlement (dubbed the "Deal of the century"); and the possibility of fresh Israeli aggression against the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.

Abbas will likely advocate for the establishment of a Palestinian state and a two-state solution. Ambassador Danny Danon fired back, calling Abbas a coward who was "part of the problem" rather than part of the solution.

"We have already heard them again and again", she said.

Haley minced no words in responding to the Palestinian leader. But we will not chase after you.

On December 6 a year ago, relations between Palestine and the USA turned sour, when Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital, prompting worldwide criticism and sparking protests across the world.

"The Palestinian leadership has a choice to make between two different paths".

Haley was referring to the surprise presence of Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and Middle East adviser, who sat with the American delegation in the Security Council chamber.

Equatorial Guinea's U.N. Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba called the fact that they came to the council "very, very important" and "a good sign".

Following the declaration, the Palestinian Authority said that the USA is no longer fit to mediate in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, while the U.S. threatened to cut off UNRWA funding for Palestinian refugees, and to any country that votes against the Jerusalem resolution at the United Nations.
