Samson scored 40 runs.

Chennai reached 128-4 in 18 overs with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (31 not out) smashing three sixes off legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal in a final over costing 22 runs.

Brendon McCullum has come up with a few good knocks throughout the tournament but has not managed to score a single half-century. Rashid Khan was chosen as the 'Player of the Match'.

Despite the loss, Shaw and captain Shreyas Iyer quickly got into their groove with the former hitting four consecutive boundaries off Siddarth Kaul's first over. "They had a good start and they have a good batting line-up, are on top of the table and they backed themselves to chase this down", Iyer concluded. They tried Kane Williamson, Saha and Ricky Bhui at the top, but none of them could provide what an aggressive opener could.

The teenager Prithvi Shaw has created a quite a buzz on social media with some of the strokes he has played; the 18-year old has played three innings of substance - including the 25-ball 47 he made against the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday night. Hales's attack up front gave Shikhar Dhawan the luxury to settle in after he seemed a tad rusty since he took the hit on the elbow.

With the ball, Avesh Khan has grabbed eyeballs with his extreme pace and shown signs of the ability to bowl quality cutters as well. SRH were the beneficiary of two dropped catches; Maxwell put down a sitter off Hales when the batsman was on nine, and Vijay Shankar dropped Yusuf when he was yet to score a run. He then had Dhawan bowled for 33 off 30 in his third over with a wrong 'un, with SRH's batsmen unable to pick his variations.

It was the calm of Williamson and the blitz of Pathan that did it for SRH in the end. While big buy Manish Pandey have also disappointed with his performance of 179 runs. The pressure was mounting, but Williamson kept his nerve and played a sedate innings. Williamson fittingly hit the winning runs, unbeaten on 32 off 30, after adding 32 off 16 deliveries with Pathan.

Delhi are mathematically still in the tournament, but it only gets harder from hereon. They need to win each of their remaining five games and also hope other favorable results to remain in contention for the play-offs. He has leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (7 wickets, nine games) for company but Mohammed Siraj, Murugan Ashwin, Washington Sundar and Tim Southee have been rotated as RCB are yet to find a set bowling line-up.

Pathan hit 27 off 12 balls to finish the job started by openers Alex Hales (45) and Shikhar Dhawan (33) with the Sunrisers getting up to haul in the target of 164, their highest chase of the season.
