Zinedine Zidane resigned as manager for Real Madrid on Thursday, days after leading the squad to a third straight Champions League title.

"Being a coach is extremely tiring - more so at a club like Real Madrid, When I feel there is nothing more to give, I'll walk away", he added.

"We have had complicated moments of the season when you are not at your best, the fans push you and that made us better". I know it's a unusual moment for everyone involved, but I think it's the right decision. After winning three Champions Leagues in a row, his salary level may be a lot higher now.

The former France worldwide, a Champions League victor with Real in 2002 also, announced his decision at a hastily-arranged press conference with president Florentino Perez on Thursday afternoon.

"We always want more from the players, and a moment comes when I can not ask them for more". I am not exhausted of coaching, after three years.

"This is my decision, maybe I am mistaken, but after three years I see this as the moment".

"I love this club, I love the president who has given me the chance to come as a player and then a manager and I am eternally grateful to him".

" When he says he's taken a decision though, we have to accept it". "I wanted him to be next to me forever".

Zidane claimed an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League title when Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday, capping a remarkable period in his first job in senior club management.

"It might be a "until soon" as Madrid have given everything to me".

" I'm not going to coach another team right now". "I'm not here to talk about the future of this team".

Zidane appeared before the media at Madrid's training ground at Valdebebas on Thursday in a hastily organised press conference which quickly aroused suspicions that this was the end.
