The dad-of-three told how devastated he was not to be able to walk Meghan down the aisle as a result of his heart surgery, and he even revealed the stark warning that he gave Prince Harry when he asked for Meghan's hand in marriage.

Thomas' comments came in the wake of his daughter's wedding, which the president did not receive an invitation to attend.

He did not attend the May 19 wedding after suffering a heart attack and he made headlines for his decision to have staged paparazzi photos taken of him preparing for the wedding, according to reports.

Thomas predicted that Harry and Meghan will have a child sometime "soon". "She's wanted children for a long time", he said. The father of the Duchess of Sussex opened up during an interview with Good Morning Britain on Monday, 18 June. In his words, "They were disappointed. and they both said, "Take care of yourself, we are really anxious about you".

The Duchess is on maternity leave, and whilst she was seen at the Royal Wedding and Trooping the Colour, she chose to lay low for the horse racing event. "It was incredible watching her", he said.

Harry, according to Thomas, told him past year to "give Donald Trump a chance".

The newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in their finery at the weekend for a family wedding as the pair watched Harry's cousin Celia McCorquodale get married. I still like Harry. I wish it had been me.

"I couldn't be more proud of those two, I think they'll do a fabulous job". "He said, 'Give Donald Trump a chance'".

Thomas also touched on Harry's views about Brexit, saying the Prince seemed "open to the experiment".

Meghan, 37, looked stunning in the white ensemble and matching hat with Prince Harry by her side.

"Harry asked for her hand on the phone", he explained.

"For the most part it was always, 'Don't speak to the press.' The rest of the things were, 'Just be careful, '" he said. "There's no real commitment to it". "Meghan said, 'Everything is ready for you.' Harry said, 'I've got one of my military friends to take care of you when you're here.' It was all set up, it was fine".

Her entire ensemble was from the designer, with a bespoke hat from Queen Elizabeth's favourite hat maker, Philip Treacy.

His ex-wife Doria Ragland was subsequently the only member of her family to attend the service, and Thomas said she did "very well" but he wishes she was sitting with someone in St George's Chapel.
