Witnesses told TMZ.com that the genre-blending rapper was leaving the dealership parking lot in a black BMW when shots were fired from another auto. According to the celeb news site, XXXTentacion was shopping for motorcycles when, as he was leaving a dealership, someone ran to his auto and fired. He's had serious legal trouble ... he's awaiting trial for domestic violence against his pregnant girlfriend.

Scores of XXXTentacion fans are claiming that the rapper is still alive - pointing to an old video he posted on Instagram previous year.

Prominent figures from the music world and beyond are expressing shock and sadness at the shooting death of 20-year-old rap breakout XXXTentacion earlier today. "God bless his family, friends and fans".

Rapper Big Sean tweeted that his "heart dropped" when he heard the news, saying "I feel like we only got to see a glimpse of his artistry". A further report indicated witnesses told officers that a Louis Vuitton bag was stolen from XXXTentacion's vehicle.

"A subsequent tweet said", "next time make sure you kill me so I can't talk (expletive)". The latter debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

But much of his brief career has been mired in controversy. His mother would buy him clothes, phones and other gifts.

A Florida native identifiable for his spiked-up dreadlocks, XXXTentacion found a wide following by uploading songs on sharing site SoundCloud, with a dark, often muffled style of hip-hop full of lyrics about his depression and past crime.

Onfroy was initially one of two artists Spotify removed from its promoted playlists in May in accordance with its new policy on hateful music and conduct.

Two videos from different angles circulating on Twitter show a man that looks like Onfroy slumped in the driver's seat of a black BMW i8 with the doors up while witnesses and BSO deputies check his pulse on his neck. Your mind is limitless.
