During the hit AMC zombie series' Comic-Con panel in San Diego Friday, the action-packed trailer for the upcoming ninth season premiered.

A staple of the Comic-Con crowd, The Walking Dead has been bringing its wares to San Diego every summer for years, and this one was no exception.

There are certainly some gnarly new walkers in the trailer, reminiscent of the early seasons of The Walking Dead. The footage featured Grimes and the rest of the survivors assembling infrastructure in their new society, as well as conversations with an imprisoned Negan.

In this trailer, we see what looks like a hurricane flinging zombies all over the place - while a new character in a wheelchair makes his debut. It seems like the last season has been all but forgotten if these Twitter reactions are anything to go by.

The Walking Dead returns this fall on AMC. The new showrunner Angela Kang will guide the show into a new era, and even though that era will be without Rick Grimes it can still be unbelievable.

During the panel, Andrew Lincoln confirmed he will be leaving the show, saying (per, "This will be my last season playing the part of Rick Grimes". Another thing, series lead Andrew Lincoln is leaving the show. What I wanted to say is my relationship with Mr. Grimes is far from over, and some part of me will always be machete-wielding sheriff's deputy from London, England.

Actress Lauren Cohan, who plays the role of Maggie, is also expected to leave The Walking Dead six episodes into season nine, according to the Hollywood Reporter. By that I mean they're walker bait.

The trailer also teases the show's next big villains, the Whisperers, who are a huge comic threat.
