CBS News reports Walmart says the "Impeach 45" items were sold by third-party sellers on its open marketplace and "were not offered directly by Walmart".

The clothing items, featuring the slogan Impeach 45 logo and sold by third-party seller Old Glory, have since been removed from sale following the backlash.

In the past, Walmart has issued statements after these incidents saying: "This item was sold by a third-party seller on our marketplace and clearly violates our policy".

America's favorite discount store, Walmart, landed in the middle of politically-fueled boycotts Monday when the company began selling Impeach 45 t-shirts.

The apparel advocating for the impeachment of President Trump was slammed by Ryan Fournier, chairman of Students for Trump, who tweeted at the company, "What kind of message are you trying to send?" There's also mens and juniors shirts that read "45 You're Fired", using Trump's facing line from his former show "The Apprentice".

Other items echoing the anti-Trump sentiment were also available on the retail giant's website, including other T-shirts, coffee mugs and bumper stickers, made by several companies.

Walmart has been targeted before by angry shoppers after controversial items have appeared on the platform.

President Trump's campaign manager, Brad Parscale, tweeted Tuesday that Walmart was removing the T-shirt and a boycott was not necessary.

Trump supporters took to Twitter with the hashtag #BoycottWalmart.

A spokesman for Walmart didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. "Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required", on its third-party marketplace.

After complaints, custom shirt company Teespring removed the shirt from the site.
