Liverpool make world-record £62million bid for Roma goalkeeper Alisson

Liverpool have edged back in front of Chelsea in the race for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

With Real Madrid moving in for Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea need another top man between the sticks.

However, Liverpool have since denied they have tabled an offer for Alisson.

Chelsea were regarded as favourites to sign the Brazil worldwide last week, but confusion over Thibaut Courtois' plans has opened the door to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ferrying him now to Merseyside.

Sky sources had previously indicated Liverpool had no plans to bid for Alisson this summer, but that was earlier in the window when the Premier League believed the Brazil worldwide was going to Real Madrid.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was forced to defend goalkeeper Loris Karius last week after another mistake - this time in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere.

Chelsea are said to be keen on Alisson too and his agent has reportedly held talks with them, but Liverpool are the only club to have made an official offer to Roma.

He played in all five of Brazil's games at this summer's World Cup, keeping three clean sheets.

The 25-year-old stopper has spent two years in Italy following his arrival from Internacional in his homeland.

The Daily Mirror goes on to claim that AS Roma are looking for a transfer fee in the region of £80m, a sum that Liverpool FC would not be prepared to pay for Alisson. Simon Mignolet, who started last season as number 1 at Anfield, is also expected to move on this summer.
