Shaqiri replaced Mohamed Salah at the interval in the International Champions Cup fixture and delivered an impressive second half display, capped by a superb final goal in Liverpool's comprehensive win.

Matic has undergone surgery for an abdominal pain and will be out for the start of the Premier League season while Mourinho was a tad irritated by absence of Shaw and Smalling, claiming he doesn't know when they will be back. I think that it's possible I'm going to have one.

'We have four or five players that are dead because they care for the club, for the team, they try to give everything, even risking themselves because they don't want to let all the kids play by themselves against AC Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

"I can't see in the moment the need".

"If it's possible.it's possible, if it's not it's not". We played over 90 minutes of really good football on a very hard pitch for both teams.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho hits out at Antonio Valencia and Anthony Martial following the Red Devils' 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the United States.

Mourinho said: "He came from [the] World Cup with an injury, and the time he had to rest in the holiday was not enough to resolve the problem".

"This is not our team, this is not our squad".

"This is not our squad".

"Reinforcements, you are saying players I'd like to buy, add to the squad". That is another thing, but this is not even 30 per cent of my squad, so don't look at this that way.

'You ask me now and I say no, but maybe if you ask me tomorrow I will say something different'.

"The majority of the players that played are not going to play - some of them are not even going to belong to the squad", he stated. So I tried it and it was a very handsome goal.

The German coach admitted he hadn't expected Shaqiri to adapt so quickly to their style of play but was delighted by the attackers display. We don't have wingers, we don't have strikers.

"And the poor man is there trying his best with the frustration of someone who wants more".

'Do you think we have to [buy another defender]? If he is not happy he is not ready to play two consecutive matches of 90 minutes and 85 minutes working the way he worked. "Really pleased with them".

Explaining that he would ideally like two new players before the close of the window, Mourinho said that he only believed it was possible to bring in one more player.
