That didn't go over well with Trump, who continued to be credited as an executive producer.

The Terminator star and former governor of California, 70, slammed Trump in an Instagram video after the president held a press conference with Putin on Monday in Helsinki, Finland.

You could see the smirk on Putin's face as Trump denounced his own country's rock solid evidence of Russian interference in the presidential election.

The next day, Mr. Brennan criticized the president for siding with Mr. Putin and throwing the US intelligence community "under the bus" rather than doing what was "minimally acceptable" by addressing the indictments.

Trump's performance at Monday's press conference was widely condemned by Democrats, Republicans, media personalities and even some of the president's staunchest supporters.

During the press conference, Putin denied all claims that Russia had interfered with the 2016 U.S. election, with Trump later refusing to tell pres if he believed his intelligence agencies when they claimed Russian was involved.

The official Twitter account of Russia's foreign ministry retweeted Mr Trump about four hours later with two words: "We agree".

Several hours before the summit began, Mr Trump declared on Twitter: "Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of US foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

During the press conference, Mr Trump was asked about his tweet and whether or not he held Russian Federation "accountable for anything in particular".

Without being prompted on the topic of collusion, he also added: "There was no collusion at all. I mean, horribly, dangerously", Trump said.
