Toys R Us' remaining stores closed on Friday, June 29.

Toys R Us is closing its last USA stores Friday, the end of a chain known to generations of children and parents for its sprawling stores, brightly colored logo and Geoffrey the giraffe mascot.

Toys "R" Us, one of the largest and most iconic toy retailers, shuttered stores across the county, closing 700 total, including all of North Carolina stores. We will miss our conversations of everything, and nothing, and the dreams we had.

Rene Johnpiere, the woman who took the viral also posted several other images, including the one above that reads: "I guess everyone has grown up".

However, shoppers who were hoping to secure a bargain on the final day of trading in Raleigh were left disappointed, as the mysterious buyer got there ahead of them.

Geoffrey has acted as the chain's logo and "spokesanimal" for the past 70 years.

"I'm never going to have a job like Toys R Us", long-time store employee Patty Van Fossan, 54, from Boardroom, Ohio, told Honolulu Star Advertiser. Toys R Us' troubles have also shaken some big toy makers like Mattel and Hasbro. "I was surrounded by children". Days before filing for bankruptcy, Toys "R" Us executives drew millions in bonuses, a scenario that didn't sit well with rank-and-file workers.

By the fall of 2017 the company, saddled with $5billion in debt, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but pledged to stay open.
