Trump refuses to answer questions about secret Cohen recording

Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, secretly recorded a conversation with the president in September 2016, in which the pair appear to discuss a payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal. Trump wrote, adding: "I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped - can this be so?" "Um", he says, "I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend, David".

"We'll have to pay", responds Cohen. Trump asked in a Twitter post on Wednesday.

Cohen says he's already spoken with the Trump Organization's finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, on "how to set the whole thing up".

In the almost two-hour exchange, which the paper said appeared to have been surreptitiously recorded by Cohen, Trump's ex-lawyer discussed at length the payment he arranged in October 2016, a month before the presidential election, to Daniels, who alleged that she had a one-night stand with Trump in 2006, shortly after his third wife Melania gave birth to their son.

"If Cohen is telling the truth why are he and Lanny Davis misrepresenting the language from President Trump "Do not pay by cash..." "Anytime a new source of information on the investigation presents itself like Michael Cohen has, it complicates the communications challenge for the White House". CNN reported that Trump's attorneys had waived his attorney-client privilege on the tape. The Enquirer never ran the story, a fact that many argue strongly suggests that the tabloid killed it at Trump's behest. When Trump showed up, he reportedly told those in attendance that he only attended because Cohen had begged him, leaving several messages with Trump's secretary and family members. Giuliani denies that Trump had an affair with McDougal. He says Trump actually says, "Don't pay with cash", showing Trump was not trying to hide the potential payment to a media company to keep model Karen McDougal's story from becoming public.

The others on which Trump appears, the report says, only include "snippets" of the president speaking.

Shortly before the 2016 election, former Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said that McDougal's allegations were "totally untrue". Despite the comments, the recording was leaked by CNN on Tuesday evening.

"The president wanted to do it the right way".

The payment was never made and Mr Giuliani said he didn't know why that was the case and hadn't discussed it with Mr Trump.

Mr Trump has denied any affair took place.

Mr Trump's current lawyer, Mr Rudy Giuliani, said he got an audio expert to enhance the recording, the Associated Press reported. Federal prosecutors investigating Cohen are in possession of 12 audio recordings seized during raids of Cohen's home, office and hotel room, according to new court filings.
