After months of rumors circulating about her poor health, Aretha Franklin has passed away at the age of 76.

After half a century in the music business, Franklin created her own label and released "A Woman Falling Out of Love", a record that only had modest sales in the U.S and stayed on the Billboard charts for just two weeks.

This is Aretha Franklin.

Earlier this week, members of her family told NBC WDIV-TV in Detroit that she was "gravely ill". I'll always be grateful for her kindness and support, including her performances at both my inaugural celebrations, and for the chance to be there for what sadly turned out to be her final performance last November at a benefit supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS. Baker also complimented Franklin's piano-playing chops: "She also excels as a pianist, displaying a strong left hand - and strong left hands are not common among jazz pianists these days". "She worked for me on numerous occasions".
