There were at least 3,367 provisional ballots left to be reviewed. "I want to see someone who's interested in working with the other party so we can actually get something done".

Mr. O'Connor, though, suggested the race was not over. "We are in a tie ballgame, and you made this possible", he told supporters. A final result was delayed while a few thousand provisional votes were still to be counted. O'Connor and Balderson will face off again in November to serve a full two-year term.

"While we won tonight, this remains a very tough political environment and moving forward, we can not expect to win tough races when our candidate is being outraised", said Corry Bliss, executive director of the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC that is working to keep the Republican majority in the House.

"However, Troy's focus never wavered from the issues central Ohioans care about like fighting opioids, creating jobs, and lowering taxes", he said. Polls began to show a close race in July, and the GOP frantically dumped money and resources into the district to try to shore up Balderson.

O'Connor is trying to appeal both to Democrats and to Republicans who might not like Trump's tone or policies.

Balderson said simply that it was an honor and "incredible" to appear with and be supported by the president. That was not good.

"After my speech on Saturday night, there was a big turn for the better", Trump said in a tweet. It is the last congressional special election scheduled before the November midterms.

O'Connor, 34, however, onstage at his campaign headquarters in the central OH district, said the race was a "tied ballgame", with a rematch due in November's regular congressional election for the seat, which opened up when GOP Rep.

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley is expected to take on McCaskill, and in MI, military veteran and business executive John James is vying for the chance to knock off Stabenow. "He will win BIG in Nov".

The seat in OH opened up after Rep. Pat Tiberi resigned in January.

And in suburban Seattle, three Democrats vied in a jungle primary for the seat held by another retiring Republican, Representative Dave Reichert.

Yet anti-Trump enthusiasm still brought Democrats within 1 point of winning a seat they haven't held since Ronald Reagan was president.

The stakes were also high Tuesday for the liberal wing of the Democratic Party. Sen.

Today is primary election day in Kansas.

The 12th district has numerous hallmarks of areas that could be weak spots for Republicans this cycle - well-educated, relatively affluent suburbs that may have soured on Trump and are looking to register their frustration through their midterm vote.

The Democratic race for governor in MI tested the electoral power of the party's progressive wing.

El-Sayed, who in the general election could have been in line to become the nation's first Muslim governor, fell to fellow Democrat Gretchen Whitmer.
