While the transfer window in the Premier League closes on Thursday, Spanish clubs can sign players until August 31 - meaning Pogba could be subject to further bids in the coming weeks.

It is believed Barcelona is working together with Pogba's agent Mino Raiola to secure a deal for the Manchester United midfielder.

However, according to the aforementioned source the bid has been rejected, with United not looking to part with their star man this summer.

The club will not sanction an exit for Pogba this month, though.

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop explains why Paul Pogba might want out at Manchester United and how Jose Mourinho could factor into his decision.

Pogba moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2016 for a then-record $121 million, and has been stuck with massive expectations ever since. They are also reportedly preparing a €100m move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Barcelona are hoping to add Paul Pogba to their list of summer signings, but it is unlikely that Manchester United will allow the World Cup victor to go without a swap deal in place.

Speculation about the midfielder's future is rife, with reports of interest from Barcelona, but Ferdinand has told executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward he must keep hold of the 25-year-old.

The newspaper adds that Pogba has agreed terms with Barcelona.

However, neither Manchester United or PSG are likely to allow their players to leave. United fans could get excited about this signing if they did end up losing their French World Cup victor.

"It's down to the manager to get the best out of him, setting the team up and setting Pogba up in the right way to achieve the best", said the former England central defender.

Transfer expert Ian McGarry told the Daily Star that United boss Mourinho should give Pogba an ultimatum before the first game of the season, against Leicester on Friday evening.
