Best of all, if you don't want to wait for the update to reach your phone via an over-the-air update, you can download the factory images from Google right now. This actually encompasses several different features that all aim to help you improve your life. A new gesture has also been added, allowing you to instantly enter Do Not Disturb mode by simple turning your phone over (face down) on a flat surface. Google also revealed Android Pie is now available for Google Pixel users.

Google's AI has been gaining traction in their releases for some time, but in Android Pie it will be more prevalent with App Actions taking the focus offering you contextually aware actions based on what you're doing at the time. You may even get a notification alerting you that the Android 9 update is available. Smart Text Selection, which will recognize the meaning of text you're selecting and suggest actions, also works in Overview.

For the Pixel 3, it appears that Google wants to have these creators tell a narrative story about real use with the device and the process of making the switch. There's a redesigned Quick Settings included, too, along with a new way to take screenshots and simplified volume controls. Later this fall, we'll also roll out Slices (pie.slices.get it?!) which shows relevant information from your favorite apps when you need it. You can enable this new system navigation in Settings once you've received your update to Android 9 (learn more in the help center). As of late July, just over 10 percent of all Android devices were running Android Oreo. Yet if you are anxious to try Digital Wellbeing before it gets released to the general public, there's a way to do that now.

At the time of this writing, links to download Android 9 are live for the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, as well as Google's first-generation family of flagships.

"Android 9 also brings important privacy improvements, such as TLS by default and DNS over TLS to help protect all web communications and keep them private", said Google. Android One phones, as well as Android Beta program-enrolled devices - including those from Essential, HMD Global, OnePlus, OPPO, Sony Mobile, Vivo, and Xiaomi - are all expected to receive the update "by the end of this fall".
