"Which in itself is an attempt at collusion", Todd said.

Giuliani accused the special counsel of being "desperate" and leaking McGahn's cooperation "illegally" to the New York Times.

"No, no, no ... don't do this to me", said Giuliani, putting his hand to his head.

Email correspondence between Trump, Jr. and Rob Goldstone, a publicist who helped to arrange the meeting, showed that the content that was to be shared was "very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump" and "would be very useful to your father".

Giuliani's remark caused a firestorm for the White House, and he was forced to issue a statement clarifying his comments.

Giuliani sparred with "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd over the meeting's significance in the special counsel Robert Mueller's look into collusion between the campaign and Russian Federation in the 2016 election.

But her husband, Jared Kushner, was less of a concern, Giuliani indicated.

In the same interview, Giuliani told Todd that he does not want the president to rush to testify to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigative team for fear that he'll be "trapped into perjury". Maybe you know because you're a genius. But a fine woman like Ivanka?

GIULIANI: No, no, no, let me finish. He says, "I didn't have to. Sorry, I'm not a sucker".

"It turned out to be a meeting about another subject, and it was not pursued at all", he said.

Giuliani's acknowledgment comes two weeks after Trump admitted the meeting was to gain information that would be damaging to his Democratic opponent.

Trump has repeatedly said that he is open to sitting down with Mueller's investigators. "Truth isn't truth", Giuliani said.

The New York Times said it stood by its story. "Collusion is not a crime".

Officially, the White House said former FBI director James Comey was sacked because of his handling of the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state. The outreach was being conducted, that first email said, "as part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump". And Trump's account of that conversation differs markedly from Comey's. "That's so silly", responded Giuliani, saying it is "somebody's version of the truth" before adding: "Truth isn't truth".

"He's entitled to that". So he fired him and he said, 'I'm free of this guy'. Keeping in mind that the job of the president's lawyer is to try to dismiss potentially damaging evidence such as the infamous Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani did the exact opposite.

Another day, another Trump aide gaslighting the American public. He had to backtrack, and the president would not announce their release until six days later. Preet Bharara, a Democrat who was sacked as federal prosecutor by the Trump administration, suggested "truth isn't truth" would not sound convincing in a trial.

"I'm not going to be rushed into having him testify so that he gets trapped into perjury", he said.

But Mr Guiliani hit back: "No, it isn't truth".

"You just said truth isn't truth", Oliver replied.
