However, Bridgewater's tenure in NY came to an abrupt end on Wednesday afternoon when the Jets traded him to the New Orleans Saints.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets are also sending a sixth-round draft pick to the Saints and receiving a third-rounder in exchange.

The Saints have a new QB behind Drew Brees: Teddy Bridgewater. At the time, Bridgewater was on pace to becoming the Vikings franchise quarterback.

The Jets will start Sam Darnold in Week 1. They do not want to waste a win-now year because of a QB injury. His best case scenario was finding a backup role on a winning team with a quarterback approaching retirement age.

The Jets signed Bridgewater to a one year deal in free agency back in March. Or he could stick around for another year as the backup. Bridgewater turns 26 in November. Think of it this way: Aaron Rodgers didn't register his first double-digit win season until age 26. With the trade, the Jets have now cleared the path for Darnold to start Week One of the 2018 National Football League season, as well as manage to get some sort of value back for Bridgewater, who has played well in the preseason.

As for the Bucs fans who wanted AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to throw Jameis out the door and trade for Bridgewater, 25, Joe has an idea where they can buy their Saints jerseys.
