Mac Miller's Family Releases A Statement Following The Rapper's Untimely Death

He was found unconscious and pronounced dead in his California home earlier today (September 7).

He had publicly struggled with substance abuse in the past.

"Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and a sense of humor that touched everyone he met", Tom Corson, Co-Chairman and COO of Warner Bros.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it was called to a "death investigation" at an address in the Valley Crest area of north Hollywood at 11.50am. Those charges followed a crash in May.

"Pls (sic) take care of yourself", she wrote in a message to Mac.

Last month Miller was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol after a May crash in which he crashed his auto into a power pole.

Miller has been open about his trouble with substance abuse including an addiction to powerful cough syrup - known on the street as purple drank. have reached out to both Mac and Ariana Grande's reps for comment. Asked directly by DeGeneres if she was happy with Miller, she said, "Yes".

He told Rolling Stone at the time: "Have I done drugs?" He says, "I'd rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can't even get out of his house".

The 25-year-old singer, who split from the rapper back in May after two years together, quickly became the target of vicious comments from trolls, who blamed her for Miller's tragic death. Grande and Miller ended their relationship in May.

"I am not a babysitter".

He previously said: "I love lean; it's great".

After taking some time off, Miller had seemed to be on the road to recovery after dropping his therapeutic album Swimming last month and his soul transcending Tiny Desk performance on NPR with Thundercat. Pitchfork magazine called it "the most surprising, concise, and accomplished album of his career".

"It's unusual. Like, the whole thing is a little odd but it's not negative", he said. "It's a stellar - if somewhat overlong - artistic statement", critic Hannah Mylrea said. The final four clips were of a record player spinning his song "So It Goes, ' in which he sings the lyrics: "Nine lives, never, die, f-k a heaven, I'm still gettin" high".
