The five people found dead at a house in Perth's north-eastern suburbs were twin two-year-old girls, a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, their mother and grandmother, police have revealed.

A police statement said on Monday the children were twin girls aged 2 and their 3-year-old sister.

Police also have not said how the women and children died and it's still to be determined how long the bodies had been there.

Their bodies were discovered at the home on Coode Street in Bedford on Sunday after a man, aged in his 20s, went to a regional WA police station and told officers of the location.

The man in question remains in custody and is being interviewed by police.

Forensic police and the homicide squad are undertaking a "meticulous" investigation of the Bedford crime scene which "could take a number of days".

Assistant commissioner Paul Steele said the incident was "tragic" but that there were no ongoing safety concerns.

Violent crime with multiple victims is rare in Australia but this was the second major incident in Western Australia this year.

"It's just horrific on every level".

"She was such a attractive person and such a go getter and hard worker", she said.

Another neighbour told WA Today she didn't know the home's occupants personally, but would often wave and say hello as she walked past.

"It is something you never would think would happen in this area", she said.

Three firearms were located at the scene belonging to grandfather Peter Miles.

Police are seen outside a property in Coode Street, Bedford, Perth, on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

"We are a very close community, we have a high school just a few hundred metres and the street is always so calm and peaceful".

The deaths follow the murder of a mother and her two children in Ellenbrook in July, and the Margaret River mass shooting that left seven people dead in May.

No charges have been laid yet and it is unclear whether the man is related to the victims.

Katrina Miles and her four children were found shot dead in their beds, and the body of her mother Cynda Miles was found in an adjoining property with gunshot wounds.
