President Trump doubles down on attack on China

'He was saying that China has total respect for Donald Trump and for Donald Trump's very, very large brain.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he wanted a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the coming months, the clearest expression yet of his administration's support for such an outcome. We are winning on trade.

"And we are winning and we're winning big".

Asked later what evidence he had, Trump said there was "plenty" but didn't immediately provide details, suggesting that some of the material was classified. He says his allegation did not come "out of nowhere". The official said China is hurting farmers and workers in states and districts that voted for Trump.

The Trump administration says China is stepping up covert and overt activities to stifle free speech, punish those who support the president's tough trade stance against China and interfere in the US political system. However, with the right kind of eyes, Beijing's retaliatory tariffs - which also took effect on Monday - can look like meddling.

"They do not want me or us to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade", he added.

President Donald Trump is trumpeting his efforts to rewrite the nation's trade deals as he kicks off a press conference in NY on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

He said China wants him to lose the election because of the heavy tariffs he placed on them. "I'm happy if they're happy".

Trump told reporters that he believes that two states - Israel and one for the Palestinians - "works best". And China is not open.

With trademark shrugs and eye-rolls, Trump appeared to have little grasp of the complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and made no effort to hide that he has no strong feelings about what path the USA should support.

The Chinese reiterated their long-standing principle of non-interference in the domestic affairs of other countries, in response during the security council meeting earlier in the day. "We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China, and we call on other countries to also observe the purposes of the United Nations charter and not interfere in other countries' internal affairs".

A four-page inset purchased by China Daily branded as a "China Watch" section appeared in the Des Moines Register on Sunday. "It is a dream of mine to get that done prior to the end of my first term", Trump said of an agreement on the conflict.

"We have to make it fair", he said.

In a briefing with reporters in Washington, a senior White House official said that China was deploying economic, military and informational tools to spread influence and to undermine the United States government.

The U.S. intelligence community concluded that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election with a covert social media campaign meant to help Trump win. The person noted that American films with content the Chinese government doesn't approve of are commonly blacklisted. According to a senior administration official, what Trump considers election interference includes Chinese retaliatory tariffs against Midwest farmers, intimidation of journalists and academics, and funding for state-controlled news outlets.

Trump made the charged claim with members of the Chinese delegation, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi, sitting three seats down.
