Wolves, KAT agree to super-max extension

That's a lot to give up for any one player, especially a player they can sign outright in free agency next summer.

The later report from ESPN added that the disconnect between Taylor and the front office has other teams believing a dispute between Taylor and team president and head coach Tom Thibodeau - who oversees general manager Scott Layden - could be coming regarding the Butler situation.

Despite the presence of Wolves point guards Jeff Teague (who the Cavs could also ask for in a trade) and Derrick Rose, Sexton would likely be the main piece in a trade for Butler.

It appears the same can't be said about Butler, at least in Minnesota.

It had been a tumultuous team-up for Jimmy Butler and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the clock ticking on Butler's tenure in Minnesota in the wake of ESPN's report of Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor seeking a resolution amid this week's opening of National Basketball Association training camps, several analysts have an eye pointed south.

"He also wants to have influence". It was a bad sign when this week's meeting between Butler and Thibodeau was moved from Minneapolis Monday to Los Angeles Tuesday.

With the nature of public trade demands, it is tough to sort out what is true.

Jimmy Butler averaged 22.2 PPG 5.3 RPG 4.9 APG 0.4 BPG and 2 SPG, in 59 games last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Having Butler on the roster and willing to make a long-term commitment would make many teams - and, certainly, rebuilding ones - more attractive to other potential free agents.

They have no first-round pick that they can send, with there being so certainty they'll own the conditional 2019 first-round pick they sent to the Atlanta Hawks for Kyle Korver. The Nets and Clippers will both have room for two max contracts next offseason.

The deal will reportedly include a trade kicker, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski, and does not contain a player option.

The first team that comes to mind is the Los Angeles Lakers.

There have been rumors that Butler and Kyrie Irving would like to play together in the Eastern Conference, so trading for Butler may put Brooklyn in the lead of the Irving sweepstakes next summer.

Everyone knows what Butler can do on the court. His arrival turned the Wolves from a 30-win team to a 48-win team previous year, a win total that would've been significantly higher had Butler remained healthy.
