Rapper Kanye West has been invited to the White House.

The rapper, who has faced criticism for his public support of Trump, will meet the president in Washington DC on Thursday, according to The New York Times.

The two men are expected to discuss prison reform, gang violence and and manufacturing resurgence in the US.

And his West Wing trip comes after wife Kim Kardashian West met Mr Trump there in May.

Rap megastar and outspoken Trump supporter Kanye West will get his dream dinner date on Thursday when he has lunch with the president at the White House, but how deep are Kanye's political ambitions?

This will be his first trip to the White House during the president's administration. The musician, who sported a MAGA hat during the episode, was praised by Trump at a rally this week, and blasted by SNL cast member Pete Davidson during this past Saturday's Weekend Update. "They bullied me. And then they say I'm in a sunken place".

The 28-year-old pop star is an outspoken feminist and backer of the #MeToo movement, but until she took to Instagram on Sunday, she had been famously apolitical. Well, West famously announced his intentions at the 2015 MTV VMA awards, when he declared: "And yes, as you probably could've guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president". "I know controversy sells, but this is a little controversial". Trump told reporters on Monday.

Despite Trump boasting regularly that black unemployment is at historic lows, only 10 percent of the African-Americans surveyed last month by Quinnipiac University said they like his policies. Previously, West revealed that he was encouraging Colin Kaepernick to sit down with the President. He was booed at a concert shortly after the election for declaring his support for Trump, although he said he had not voted.
