Collins, who was riding with Murkowski on an underground Senate train, smiled and told her colleague, "Good answer".

Kavanaugh said in his remarks that Democrats were attacking him due to their anger about Donald Trump's victory in the 2016 election or as "revenge on behalf of the Clintons", all fuelled by "millions of dollars in money from outside leftwing opposition groups".

"Hopefully, as Mitch said, they'll have a vote by the end of the week, and it will be a positive vote". NBC News reported on Tuesday afternoon, citing a "source familiar with the Trump administration's thinking", that the FBI has no plans to interview Ford as part of the investigation. He's expressed concern at how a failed nomination will affect him politically, and accused some aides of failing to confront the crisis adequately.

Ludington told CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time" anchor Chris Cuomo that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert, when he and a group of friends were drinking at Demery's.

Ludington told Cuomo he initially remembered Kavanaugh then threw his beer at the man, but recently found out from the report that there were ice cubes in the thrown drink. Dudley and Cozzolino didn't immediately return messages on Tuesday.

Kavanaugh was accused of throwing ice at a man in 1985.

"They seriously call into question his character and morality", the letter reads, "and should disqualify him from a lifetime appointment as a Supreme Court Justice" and a Harvard Law School lecturer.

Kavanaugh and Judge have vehemently denied all the allegations.

As of Monday afternoon, she had not been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to schedule an interview, according to a person close to her.

Nevertheless, President Trump authorized the supplemental investigation as requested. Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh, who has made a name for himself as flagbearer for white male identity in America, unloaded on what he calls "militant feminism" after the dramatic Kavanaugh hearing.

McConnell mocked the questions from Democrats about Kavanaugh's drinking in high school and college. "It might be effective in drawing further attention to some students' objection to Kavanaugh's teaching appointment, but I don't expect him to be found to have violated Harvard University's Sexual & Gender-Based Harassment Policy based on the now known public allegations against him".

Mr Schumer said Mr Kavanaugh seemed willing to "mislead senators about everything from the momentous to the mundane" to ensure his confirmation.

The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Joe Manchin's campaign office in Charleston and were charged early Tuesday. Autumn Davis confirms nine people were charged but declines to comment further.

Supreme Court nominations require Senate confirmation.

The announcement was made in an email from administrators to law students on Monday.

That means if all the Democrats vote against Mr Kavanaugh, Trump could not afford to have more than one Republican oppose his nominee, with Vice President Mike Pence casting a tie-breaking vote.

A Harvard Law School spokeswoman confirmed Kavanaugh's decision to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Kavanaugh testified that while he enjoys drinking beer, and often did so in high school, he never drank to excess.

Appearing at the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Boston, Flake said on Monday that he wants the FBI to conduct a "real investigation" and not one that "just gives us more cover". Kavanaugh denies that as well.

Kavanaugh, whose Senate confirmation has been thrown into doubt by the accusations, has denied the claims by all three women.

Three moderate Republicans have yet to say if they will back Kavanaugh and they will likely be the key votes when the Senate finally decides. He says there is mounting evidence that the appeals court judge isn't credible.
