Novak Djokovic upstages opponent Borna Coric by speaking ideal Mandarin in Shanghai

Second seed Djokovic, who has returned to his brutal best this season with Grand Slam wins at Wimbledon and the U.S Open, will surpass Federer as world number two when the next edition of the ATP rankings are released on Monday.

"I think, quite similar in style of play to today's match".

Djokovic dominated opponents behind his powerful serve, winning all 47 of his service games during the tournament.

Quizzed by reporters about his plans for next year, the 20-time Grand Slam victor - fresh from losing to 13th seed Borna Coric of Croatia - showed a flash of irritation. He previously shared the record of winning three Shanghai titles with Andy Murray.

The extra 1,000 ranking points help Djokovic break into the world's top two for the first time since June 2017, while he also earned $1,360,560 in prize money for his efforts in Shanghai.

Novak Djokovic has continued his remarkable rise back up the rankings but Rafael Nadal stands between the resurgent star and a drought-breaking stint at the top.

Djokovic's data is obviously still better, at 87.8% and 30.0%, respectively (117.8% combined), and unsurprisingly he's the favourite to take the title. "I'm going to decide with my team in a few days", Djokovic said. However, the current price of [1.15] looks pretty short given this data - it's not a vast discrepancy in abilities - and even if we look at data from the last three months, where Djokovic has been magnificent, again, their ability differential is not huge.

After a awful start of the season, the Serb has won 39 of the last 43 matches and four big titles that include two Grand Slam and two Masters 1000 crowns that propel him closer to Nadal and make him the favorite for the year-end number 1 spot.

He will jump a spot to No 2 in the world if he reaches the final in Shanghai.

'You just watch him and say: "How do I beat this guy?"

"It was a different surface", Djokovic said of their previous match.

"It means a lot because I have kind of played only the biggest tournaments", Zverev said. And Shanghai was his 32nd career Masters final.
