The second-year point guard is coming off one of his better defensive efforts this season, which Ball explained was a point of emphasis after the Lakers got off to a poor start against the Toronto Raptors.

The Lakers added star LeBron James as well as Rajon Rondo, among others, this summer. The matchup with the Kings is the first of a back-to-back for the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers held off the Minnesota Timberwolves in a nail biting finish to record their fifth win of the 2018-19 season.

For his career, the 7-foot-1, 240-pound Chandler, the second overall pick in the 2001 National Basketball Association draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and traded that night along with Brian Skinner to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Elton Brand, carries averages of 8.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in 28.2 minutes 1,086 games (875 starts).

Jimmy Butler added 24 for the Timberwolves, who lost their fourth straight and remain winless on the road.

Chandler had been phased out to a limited bench role with rookie Deandre Ayton as the focal point in the frontcourt as the starter.

Luke Walton's job has come under the microscope after his team's hard start to the campaign and his future would have again been questioned had they lost to the Timberwolves. "Every last one of his minutes was impactful". The veteran center was brought on to give them some size as a backup for starting center JaVale McGee. Chandler averaged just 0.1 block per game when he was on the Suns, compared to 1.2 blocks in his career. "We finally put it together", said Australia's Simmons. "And get a dub".

"Hopefully it's nothing serious", Walton said. "It's unbelievable. I haven't played with a closer like that since Dirk".

"To be able to have him close out games and know how special he is on both ends - defensively and offensively - I just want to take some of the pressure off him".

Luke Walton believes the addition of Tyson Chandler will have a major impact on the Lakers.

Lonzo Ball may not be on the floor for the Lakers on Saturday.
