Cowboys wish Dez Bryant well

Payton said he had conversations with Bryant even before the draft about possibly coming to New Orleans, but those talks "slowed up" after the Saints drafted receiver Tre'Quan Smith in the third round.

The Saints, however, kept a close eye on the 6-foot-2, 230-pound Bryant after his release. During his eight seasons in Dallas, Bryant played in two divisional playoff games in 2014 and 2016, losing both to the Packers, and one wild card, defeating the Lions in 2014.

Many have called Bryant "washed up" and "old", but his numbers last season with the Dallas Cowboys say otherwise.

Colin Cowherd explained Wednesday on FS1 why Bryant should send a thank you note to Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon upon signing with the Saints.

Bryant, 30, previously held a featured role with the Cowboys, but that won't be the case in New Orleans. Veteran Ted Ginn Jr. was placed on injured reserve last month with a knee injury, and Cameron Meredith hasn't panned out as hoped since joining the team as a restricted free agent, with zero targets over the past three games.

"He just makes our offense that much more dynamic and obviously the question is who are you going to cover on our team now", fullback Zach Line told NFL.com.

While Bryant may not have the ability to create space and get open on every play, he now finds himself with one of greatest quarterbacks of all-time, Drew Brees, a quarterback who can throw receivers open. "He goes up and attacks the ball better than I've seen anyone".

Dez Bryant has a new home. "He's definitely a special player and I'm glad he got picked up and I'm glad something worked out for him".

Adding Bryant gives the Saints offense another dimension outside of targeting Thomas and changing things up with Kamara and Ingram in the backfield.

Said coach Jason Garrett: "Dez is a great player".

"It's big for him, man", Crawford said, via PFT. I know he'll help their team.

Bryant hasn't played football since New Year's Eve. In Week 13, Dez will be returning to Dallas when the Cowboys host the Saints. "Really happy for him and that opportunity", he said.
