Ball sprains ankle but plans to play in Lakers' next game

When the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James over the summer, the messaging that began funneling out of El Segundo felt like wishful thinking. Those guys played. We played at a high level. "The success we had a year ago, it wasn't just me".

We haven't really seen James and Walton argue on the court much - at least not yet anyway - so it's too early to speculate about if this will have an impact on the Lakers head coach's job security going forward.

The Lakers have now lost back-to-back games while Denver have won four in a row.

Victor Oladipo sat out his sixth straight game for IN with a sore right knee, but the Lakers still needed James to close it out.

The Indiana Pacers released some sobering injury news on Friday, as leading scorer Victor Oladipo will be out indefinitely with a knee injury. "I just tried to make plays".

Walton said that any team with a player of James's caliber will rely on that player at times.

James' Cleveland Cavaliers eliminated the Pacers from the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, going to seven games in the opening round a year ago.

"It hurts", Walton said of the team's point guard injuries. "Now we have to continue to get good at, better at, those other times where we're just playing basketball". Ball sprained his ankle in LA's loss at Denver on Tuesday, but made good on his vow to play through it. He could go through a full practice Friday. He's also second on the Pacers in assists (4.7) and rebounds (6.6) after winning the NBA's steals title last season.
