"But there will be a time".

"A myriad of factors contributed to Meyer's decision", Thamel wrote, "but sources say foremost among them was his happiness with the state of the Ohio State program he inherited seven years ago".

How will Ryan Day do at Ohio State?

Day, 39, is in his second season on the Buckeyes' staff after previously working for Chip Kelly with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. I like coach Day, so that is good that they are not going outside to hire a new coach. He was mentioned as a candidate for college head-coaching jobs this year but never strongly pursued any.

A big reason for his hire at Ohio State is his penchant for running a high-tempo offense, which he's been running for the Buckeyes alongside co-offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

He played quarterback at the University of New Hampshire from 1997 to 2001 for Chip Kelly, who was the offensive coordinator at the time.

Kirk herbstreit, who knows Meyer well and considers him a friend, appears confident that this is it.

Tuesday's press conference is set for 2 p.m. Meyer will be joined by Day and athletic director Gene Smith. Meyer releases a statement the next day saying he had "health issues" and it taking a leave of absence.

As NPR's James Doubek reported, "Meyer fired Zach Smith, an assistant coach, on July 23 after learning of reports that". A March 2018 analysis by ESPN found that college football or basketball coaches earned the top salary among public employees in 39 of the 50 states.

There is little doubt that this has been one of the most trying seasons in the 54-year-old's coaching career. This has always been viewed as Meyer's dream job.

Meyer has a 82-9 record during his time in Columbus, went 7-0 against MI and also finishes with a 54-4 record in Big Ten play. I want to focus on the state championship game, then once that is done next week, I will really think about it. He won 90.1 percent of his games at Ohio State, the best percentage in school history, ahead of Jim Tressel (82.8), Bruce (75.5) and Woody Hayes (76.1).

Meyer, who also won two national championships (2006 and 2008) at Florida, is in his 17th season as a head coach. The Buckeyes trounced Northwestern 45-24 on Saturday night, one week after routing archrival MI in their annual showdown.
