According to Sport, Barcelona want to sell Suarez but would also be open to Arsenal signing the midfielder on loan for the rest of the season with an obligatory option to buy.

West Ham understood there was an asking fee of £20m from Barca's side, and have offered to hijack Arsenal's move by paying the fee up front.

The Gunners do not have much of a budget for this winter, with a deal for Denis Suarez from Barcelona the most likely transfer this month.

Suarez has been strongly linked with a switch to Arsenal this month after struggling to establish himself under Ernesto Valverde at the Nou Camp this season with the midfielder playing just 8 minutes of La Liga football so far this campaign.

The 25-year-old previously played under Emery at Sevilla so the Arsenal boss knows exactly how good he can be.

The Catalan publication claim his agreement was crucial before negotiations started between the two clubs.

Reports in Italy have suggested the Blues are close to sealing a deal for Barella.

Suarez scored six times in 47 games during his season-long loan at Sevilla in 2014-15 when Emery was in charge of the Spanish club.

Unai Emery has asked Arsenal to find the funds to complete a deal for FC Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, according to a report in England. And then when he had his injuries, he recovered his position on the bench.
