White Sox Make Formal Offer To Manny Machado

Rosenthal also notes that Bryce Harper is willing to wait for the right deal. Machado reportedly is the Phillies' preference, but there's a chance the New York Yankees could rain on their parade.

Machado visited the White Sox on the Monday following the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas.

Unless the market for these two 26-year-old superstars has decreased to a point undreamt of when the offseason began, an offer to Machado worth "closer to $200 million than $300 million" probably isn't 10 years long.

For what it's worth, ESPN's Jeff Passan - one of the most respected Major League Baseball insiders - reported on Wednesday that the White Sox are willing to go 10 years.

Manny Machado will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks with Yankees installed as favorites.

That could then leave the door open for the Nationals to make a similar offer to the one they reportedly made in September. In this picture, Machado #8 of the Los Angeles Dodgers reacts to his first inning strike out against the Boston Red Sox in Game Five of the 2018 World Series at Dodger Stadium on October 28, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

Later on Wednesday, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score had some interesting tweets that looked like it was refuting Passan's earlier article.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Thursday that the White Sox have already made an offer to Machado, adding that they're more engaged on him than Harper at the moment, not entirely a surprise considering Machado is expected to make his decision before Harper's. That would allow a bidding war to play out with that high-level market now Machado's alone. The Yankees appear to be interested in Machado rather than Harper, the Cubs would need to clear out some salary, and the Cardinals and Nationals have upgraded their team in other ways that have taken them away from Harper.

Entering the third month of free agency, neither player appears close to signing, though as always, talks can accelerate with one text or phone call.
