Tottenham's Kane to step up recovery from ankle injury next week

Kane is likely to be out until March after damaging left ankle ligaments against Manchester United at Wembley on January 13, but has gone to the United States to recover.

But Kane, who is known to return from injuries before anticipated, has raised hopes after posting a video of himself on social media doing significant exercises on the joint.

"I can not tell you if he is ahead of schedule or not", said Pochettino, whose side host Newcastle on Saturday.

However, having become the first Premier League side to not sign a single player for two consecutive transfer windows, former Spurs striker Les Ferdinand thinks that the lack of investment in the playing squad over the last 12 months or so will be their downfall in the title race.

He said: "We cannot put the excuse that we are not a real contender but we are going to try, we are going to dream because we are close, we are there in a very good position and we are going to try and fight until the end to be as high as we can". "Hopefully I will be back as soon as possible".

According to the Evening Standard, the club are awaiting the results of the latest tests regarding the grounds' wiring and critical safety systems, and should the latest checks highlight further problems, more tests would be scheduled for late February, meaning the delay would likely push back the opening of the ground until April.

Despite Harry Kane being ruled out until March through injury and Son Heung-min only recently back from the Asian Cup, Pochettino has repeatedly refused to bring Janssen back in from the cold.

"That is my decision, that he's going to be involved with the first team from today".

"We need to assess it, but we are happy in the way that he is recovering".
