The meme targeted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and featured three pictures of her - one with actor Salman Khan, one with Vivek Oberoi and the last with her husband Abhishek Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya. After the backlash, he deleted the tweet on Tuesday and apologised for the same.

Vivek added, "Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action".

With the exit polls of the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections going on, Vivek took to Twitter to share a meme.

The committee has demanded police to lodge an FIR under Section 509 (gestures or acts meant to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Act against Oberoi. But I want to respond to what you have written [on Twitter]... They don't work on issues but start their politics on non-issues. Earlier, the Maharashtra State Women's Commission (MSWC) had found his post disrespectful to women.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who will soon be seen in PM Modi's biopic, was slammed by netizens for sharing a "tasteless" meme on the exit polls. He will apologise if he has done something wrong. "I'd like to meet them, I'll also like to explain myself because I don't think I have done anything wrong". The commission had said that Oberoi's tweet was insulting and misogynistic.

"We would like him to apologise on social media and personally also to the person concerned".

After being lashed out by several women on the internet including Bollywood stars Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Urmila Matondkar, Vivek Oberoi finally deleted his crass meme featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Someone had sent me a meme which made fun of me. Vivek later reacted to Sonam's remark and advised her to overact less in her films and overreact less on social media. The people, who are in the meme, haven't objected to it. I laughed at it. "We will be talking to Twitter to remove that tweet immediately". I laughed on it&I appreciated the person for his creativity. "It has been reported that you had drawn a sly comparison between the poll result and a woman's personal life", the notice said.
